Zytglogge Take 2
I tried watercolor and charcoal again. I think it worked.
Of course I spent way too much time on it. But that’s the way it goes. You have to make it exist first, then you can work on refining the process.
This was about 10 steps.
- paint the copper green tower roof
- paint yellow gold bell ringer on the tower roof, clock numerals and Bernese flag
- paint the clay tile roofs with burnt umber/burnt sienna
- pale wash the sky with phthalo blue green shade
- paint angry clouds with paynes grey - darker at the bottoms
- pale wash building facades beige with new gamboge, a bit of green and a bit of opaque white
- paint the bright red flags and clock face with cadmium red
- pale wash the cobblestones with davies grey
- apply charcoal very lightly, mostly roof lines and suggestions for the shadows (laube arches)
- fix with nitrocellulose spray
The border cutout sheet overlay sort of worked, but leaked a bit. I’ll need to find a better way to protect the 1.5cm border, or a better way of attaching the paper border protector so it doesn’t lift in the middle of the sides.
